Taurine, a sulfur-containing amino acid, is the most abundant amino acid in mammals, occurring both in cells and in blood plasma. High concentrations of taurine are found in the heart, retina, bile, brain, plasma, platelets, leucocytes, whereas smaller amounts are found in liver, erythrocytes, muscles, kidney.
