Who will win ‘Malaria: The BIG picture’ contest: you decide!

March 27, 2013 - 18:11 -- Bart G.J. Knols

The contest is now open for votes!

Since the start of the contest on 15 February, photos that tell stories about malaria have been flooding in. We have over 700 stunning entries. Now we would like YOU to select the finalists.

You can do so via the competition website between Monday, 25 March and Sunday, 7 April 2013. Based on your votes, the finalists will be selected in each of the three categories: People, Treatment & Prevention, and Research & Development. An expert panel of judges will then select the winners: first to fifth place.

Photo submissions should be judged on the following three criteria:

- Power of the photograph and a meaningful, creative caption that together tell a story related to the relevant competition category.

- Alignment with the competition objectives of raising awareness about malaria, the development of new tools to defeat it and communicating a related human-interest story.

- Originality.

Fifteen lucky winners from around the world will be announced on Monday, 22 April at the “Malaria Vaccines for the World” Conference in Lausanne. The first prize winners in each category will receive a brand new FujiFilm camera, provided by FujiFilm Switzerland, plus CHF 400. There are also a series of cash prizes to be given away to those in 2nd to 5th place.

The winning photographs will be posted in an online exhibition for the world to see in time for World Malaria Day on Thursday, 25 April.
