Arjen Dondorp trained as an infectious diseases and intensive care physician in the Netherlands. He is a Professor of Tropical Medicine at the University of Oxford, U.K., and a visiting Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand.

Prof Dondorp is the Deputy Director and Head of Malaria Research at the Mahidol Oxford Tropical Medicine Research Unit in Bangkok, Thailand and chairs the Technical Expert Group on Antimalarial Drug Resistance and Containment for the World Health Organization. His main research interests include antimalarial drug resistance, the pathophysiology and treatment of severe malaria, and care for critically ill patients in resource poor settings.
