Event: WEBINAR! Digital Tool Use in Malaria Surveillance Programs

June 7, 2018 - 11:52 -- MalariaWorld Events

Vector Learning Exchange
June 26 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

For the past six months, the National Malaria Control Programs of Senegal and The Gambia have been establishing best practices for coordinating malaria interventions and clinical care in border regions. Malaria surveillance tends to be weakest in countries with the highest burden, making it difficult to accurately assess disease trends and plan interventions. Improving malaria surveillance helps NMCP to determine which areas are most affected and helps countries design strategic malaria control interventions. Join our webinar on Tuesday, June 26th at 9:00am EST where Jessica Long will discuss Dimagi‘s work to help prototype a shared cross-border malaria data visualization tool for improving surveillance. During the webinar we will discuss:

  • What kinds of data sources are used by malaria surveillance teams (e.g. clinical, intervention, entomological, meteorological)
  • Recommended indicators to use to monitor malaria incidence, according to national and international WHO standards
  • Creation of a data exchange protocol, to ensure that indicators are tracked consistently in Senegal and The Gambia and can be directly compared
  • General considerations for moving from national malaria surveillance to cross-border malaria surveillance
  • How clinical data collection has been operationalized with DHIS2
  • Other examples of how digital tools have been used in the past 5 years to support different activities led by the national malaria control programs
