This is a symposium to serve as a forum for discussing the perspectives and priorities in terms of prevention and control of malaria and HAT in Africa. It will also promote exchanges of ideas among Entomologists, Epidemiologists, Parasitologists and Immunologists working on these major Diseases in Africa. There will be opportunity to promote communication skill within young scientists emerging from the North and South.
We target a broad range of audience within influential partners from academia (scientists), stakeholders, public health workers and industry to help shape and promote future research on malaria and HAT.
The symposium will be held at the Convention Centre (“Palais des Congrés”, Marina Avenue) on 07, 08 October, 2010, Cotonou, Benin. The official languages will be French and English but in any case an audio system will be set up to allow translation during the event.
A special award ceremony is planned to recognize efforts in pioneer work conducted by staff involved in the diagnostic of the Sleeping illness in West Africa with partnership and assistance from WHO and Sanofi-Aventis group.
We will also promote scientific advances achieved in parasite detection, prevention and control of malaria and sleeping sickness in West Africa through the regional REFS project. This project conducted in close collaboration with the National Malaria and sleeping Sickness Control Programmes between 2007 and 2010 involved scientists from 6 institutions and universities from France and West Africa (Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Cote d’Ivoire)
