A Research Associate position is available as soon as possible, for 34 months. You will be based in Professor Robert Sinden’s laboratory in South Kensington, London and will assist in scientific research dealing with the development and implementation of Plasmodium transmission-blocking assays. You will contribute to producing independent and original research within the group and aid in the submission of publications to refereed journals, and research grants. You will also help with the supervision of undergraduate and masters research projects.


The project will involve the further development of existing assays and creation of novel assays for evaluating the transmission-blocking potential of antimalarial drugs using a variety of in vivo and in vitro techniques.


The successful candidate must hold a PhD in Cellular or Molecular Parasitology or equivalent level of professional qualification and experience. You must have experience with P. falciparum culture, generation of transgenic parasites, assay development and have a successful track record in academic publications. Knowledge of Plasmodium cell biology and experience in parasite transmission to mosquito, culture of P. falciparum gametocytes and basic molecular biology techniques are essential. Experience in working with P. berghei, antimalarial drug evaluation or working in a pharmaceutical environment are desirable.


You must have the ability to organise your own work with minimal supervision and to apply relevant models, techniques and methods and develop new ones are essential. You must also be committed to meeting deadlines and willing to cooperate as part of a team and to be open-minded and cooperative.
