We have an exciting opportunity for a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant based within our Vector Group. The post will provide both technical and academic support to characterise genes sex-specifically expressed during the development of mosquito testes.
The successful candidate will work with a team of vector biologists on identification of testis-specific genes in Anopheles gambiae using an analysis of RNA-seq data from the testis transcriptome, characterization of temporal and spatial expression patterns of candidate genes using RT-PCR and in situ hybridization, and functional analysis of transcripts via gene knockdown in transgenic lines.
A PhD in Biological Science is essential, along with excellent organisational and communication skills, and the ability and willingness to work to deadlines as an integral and co-operative member of a multinational research team. Relevant experience in molecular biology is essential; a good command of bioinformatics methods and previous experience in insect transgenesis would be advantageous.  You will be expected to conduct independent research and publish the results in quality scientific journals, so previous accomplished experience in this area is essential.
