December 8, 2017 - 10:15 -- MalariaWorld Jobs

Organization: Indiana University School of Medicine
Location: Indiana, US

Position Summary
Work in the Chandy John lab aims to reduce the mortality, morbidity, and overall incidence of malaria. We focus on the host response to parasite infection, the short- and long-term neurological and cognitive outcomes of severe malaria in children, effects of malaria and other infections in children with sickle cell anemia, and the dynamics of malaria transmission in pre-elimination settings. Our research is funded by the NIH, the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the Thrasher Research Fund and other organizations.

Current research objectives include: the development of multiple species malaria diagnostics and detection, assessment of parasite genotypes over time and space in areas of low transmission, assessment of how parasite gene expression affects immune response and clinical outcomes, investigating the host immune response to infection in settings with differing transmission levels and in patients with differing forms of malaria, including different forms of severe malaria, and investigating neurodevelopmental outcomes of children with severe malaria.
