July 19, 2012 - 19:48 -- MalariaWorld Jobs

Organisation: The Pennsylvania State University &  (ICEMR)

Location: USA & India

The Departments of Biology and Entomology at The Pennsylvania State University are seeking an entomologist/ecologist to join a collaborative team working as part of a newly funded International Centre of Excellence for Malaria Research (ICEMR) in India, supported by the NIH.   The project involves field and lab-based studies with partners in India and the U.S., with research directed towards understanding the ecological determinants of malaria transmission and the consequences of insecticide resistance.

We seek a project scientist to help develop research capacity in India.  Eligible candidates must have a Ph.D. in host-parasite ecology, medical entomology, or a related field.  Experience in supervising research students is also desirable .  There is scope for developing an independent research program, but the initial aim is to help get the project running on the ground. Accordingly we are particularly interested in someone with field experience and demonstrated capacity to conduct logistically complicated entomological experiments in challenging environments (and ideally first hand experience in India).

The exact time split between the U.S. and India will depend on the interests and flexibility of the candidate, but willingness to spend the majority of time in India during the first 12 months is a requirement. The U.S.-related activities will be based at the University Park Campus of The Pennsylvania State University. The activities in India will be centered on research sites in Rourkela (Orissa), with some work in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) and New Delhi.

Applicants able to work in the U.S. are preferred.

Eligible candidates should send their CV, a cover letter detailing experience and research interests, and contact information for three references to Dr. Matt Thomas at mbt13@psu.edu or Dr. Andrew Read at a.read@psu.edu

Feel free to contact Dr. Thomas or Dr. Read for more information http://www.thethomaslab.net/ and http://www.thereadgroup.net/.
