The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) is a not-for profit research institute located in La Jolla, California. Calibr is focused on innovative early stage translational research in the areas of regenerative medicine, cancer biology, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, immunology and infectious disease.
The California Institute for Biomedical Research (Calibr) is seeking a talented Postdoctoral Fellow candidate to join a global training program supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The successful candidate will work with an interdisciplinary team of scientists focused on translational research and drug discovery for neglected tropical disease, particularly protozoans. The role of the candidate may include leadership and coordination of a malaria drug discovery project and responsibilities may also extend to an active role in early phase drug discovery including assay development, screening, data processing and in vitro and in vivo biological follow-up of lead candidates. On successful completion of the program, the fellow will have the opportunity to transition to a position at the Global Health Drug Discovery Institute, which is to be established in Beijing, China, by Tsinghua University and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
- PhD in biology, biochemistry, immunology, or a related field
- Experience with tissue culture, assay development, small molecule discovery and vivarium work are preferred
- Highly motivated, creative and team-oriented
- Able to effectively collaborate and communicate within the team and with partners
- Fluent communication skills in Mandarin Chinese
- A genuine passion for infectious disease
Candidates with previous experience with infectious disease, vaccine development and/or drug discovery are encouraged to apply. Postdoctoral fellows will have the opportunity to publish their findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals.
